Pain in the seat?

Prolapse and Sciatica: Can one get rid of sciatica or do you have to live with it?

Many have questions about prolapse and sciatica. Here we answer 'Can you get rid of sciatica or do you have to live with it?' Which is a well-asked question. The answer is that it varies based on a number of factors - such as cause, duration, your exercise habits, your work and the like.

We consider it to be two main reasons why you get nerve pain down the legs - prolapse (disc disease) and sciatica (when muscles and joints irritate the sciatic nerve in the back or seat.

Factors that determine whether your prolapse heals well:

  • Size of the prolapse
  • Position on the prolapse
  • Age
  • Your job (a lot of heavy lifting in unfavorable positions or a lot of static sitting, for example)
  • Exercise and support muscle
  • Your physical form and the disease picture
  • Diet - the body needs nutrition if it is to repair and build
  • Resveratrol: Some studies have shown that This can help repair in the slices

Tips: Here you will find exercises suitable for you with prolapse (low abdominal pressure exercises).

With sciatica or false sciatica, it is not a prolapse that is to blame for your nerve pain - but rather tight gluteal muscles, pelvic dysfunction and lumbar spine that are the culprits - then there are naturally other factors that determine whether sciatica disappears.

Factors that determine if you get rid of false sciatica / sciatica:

  • Treatment - early treatment by a chiropractor, physiotherapist, etc. can help
  • Exercise and stretching - proper training and stretching is very important
  • Your job
  • How much time you spend in sitting position
  • Movement (take daily walks on rough ground!)

It is exercises and clothing exercises that help against sciatica / false sciatica.

Here is the question a female reader asked us and our answer to this question:

Female (40): Hi, I have a big prolapse in my back that started in December 2015. Got sciatica and could hardly walk and had great problems being able to sleep. Went on lots of painkillers and anti-inflammatory. Eventually I managed to get out to go something that helped. I have trained a lot of strength exercises for the back and stomach and have also spent eight weeks training through Nav. This has helped a lot and I am back in a 40% job and hope to eventually increase the work percentage. But I still have during a week several days where I have a lot of pain especially in the sciatic nerve from the seat and all the way down the leg. Loses the feeling in the feet. I train a lot, walk at least 8 km every day and I still have a lot of pain. Very awake at night and must take painkillers to fall asleep again. What I wonder is if one can get rid of sciatica or if this is a condition one has to live with? My physiotherapist and my doctor do not recommend surgery. Female, 40 years

Reply:  Hey,

Regarding your question about sciatica, something is missing. Yes, it can be if the very basis for nerve irritation is lost - in your case, this is a major prolapse. In other cases, the reason may be tight muscles in the seat and back combined with joint restrictions. In your case, it has now been 10-11 months since the prolapse occurred. It sounds like you have done most things right and that you train well - this is very important.

Unfortunately, a large prolapse (as you define it), in some cases takes a very long time before it gets completely well - and certain movements / efforts can also provoke it sometimes / days: which can lead to healing taking even longer and that you will be put back longer in the recovery period. In some cases, it can take up to 2 years before the symptoms disappear completely, even if you do everything right, but we estimate that you will feel a little better in 3-6 months if you continue to exercise as you do now. Because you have noticed a decent improvement since it started in December 2015?

Regards.

Female (40): Thanks for reply! Oh yes, I am much better now, but I have to start the day with the walk and do exercises before I go to work to avoid pain relief. Also exercises strength at the fitness center. But feel like I'm totally knocked out when the sciatica is at its worst. But realize that I always have to keep exercising. A lot of great exercises and information you post. Good to hear that the sciatica will eventually disappear.

Reply: Hey,

I fully understand that the condition is tiring and demanding - prolapse is far from fun. Thank you very much for your warm words. Continue with the good work and training you do - it will give good rewards in the short and long term. Good improvement and let us know if you need a slightly more specific training program or similar, in which case this is something we can arrange.
