Hip Pain - Pain in the hip

Here is the question a female reader asked us and our answer to this question:

Female (42 years): Hi! Just discovered this great sia of theirs, lots of great info. Have some questions that I wonder if you could help me with. For about a year I have had it a little tough, got anxiety after a lot of stress and a lot of work, as well as a little too "decent", so well yes count everything and everyone. Fortunately, that anxiety is better. During the same period, I got a lot of pain on spes night and poor sleep. The message from the doctor was to exercise and get the head "in place" .. Made an attempt, but the pain got worse. Have also sought out a chiropractor, but they also did not understand what was wrong. About 5-6 weeks ago, I was diagnosed with mucositis in the hip. Got then 1st cortisone injection, and had a good effect. But relapse .. Then I've probably had it here for almost 1 year. Last Friday I got injection no. 2, a little unsure even about the effect .. Have had a little more pain, but now in the muscles in the back of the buttocks and thighs. Is it common? There was some background for questions. What can I do myself in relation to training, exercise to get better. Got little information from the doctor. A little worried and desperate about the whole situation. Is terrified that it will not get better. Hoping for some tips and advice. PS. Is 42 years old. Has scoliosis and has been somewhat afflicted with muscles and joints for several years. Is in 80% job as an assistant in kindergarten.

Reply: Have some follow-up questions.

1) Do you still have night pain? A little difficult to understand if these were now improved - or if they have persisted?

2) Regarding cortisone injections, it will often have a good effect on mucositis (bursitis) in the hip - but it should always be put under the guidance of ultrasound to see that you actually hit in the middle of the mucosa. Without ultrasound, there is a high probability that syringe no. 2 may have missed the structure.

3) You demand "safe training", and then we will first and foremost recommend these exercises:

back extension cobra exercise

Try these: - 7 Exercises for Rheumatists

They are adapted to people with rheumatic diagnoses and thus suitable for everyone.

4) When was you first diagnosed with scoliosis? And how many degrees is it measured to (Cobb's angle)?

5) Has hip and back imaging been taken? So, when / by what / and what did the results show (verbatim)?

Please number your answers. Thank you in advance.

Regards.

Discussion with health professionals

Female (42 years):

1) Have continued night pain, but to a lesser extent. Before cortisone spray # 1 I often sat in the living room and slept from about 04 at night. In other words, poor quality of sleep.

2) 2nd cortisone syringe was not set with ultrasound, my GP who put it at the local doctor's office.

3) Great with specific exercises, but can I test them out with inflammation in the hip?

4) Has "always" had scoliosis, detected early, was well followed up by the hospital in Tromsø. Hereditary, mom and a sister who and have it, but do not know degree, but was not talking about corset at least. As a child and youth, I played both athletics and football. Was not hampered by it.

5) Did not take pictures of hips but of back / lower back many years ago. Then I got a cyst in the spine, completely harmless, which is encapsulated. If I am to write literally from that epic crisis, I must probably look a little.

3.) How do you know you have hip inflammation if no imaging has been taken? It is the only way to detect inflammation in the hip. To us it sounds more like it could be a tendon or muscle injury / dysfunction.

Cortisone Injection

Female (42 years):

Hi again, the doctor pressed on an area outside the hip. Then it hurt a lot. And based on that, that diagnosis has probably been made. Trust the doctor, count on her knowing what she was doing. Should I get a referral for MRI? Have sweated a lot at night and. My doctor says it comes from the inflammation in the hip. Difficult this here!

3.) An inflammatory diagnosis based on pressure / palpation cannot be made. That is simply completely wrong. Yes, you should have it examined with diagnostic ultrasound or MRI. The fact that you have received two cortisone injections "blindly" is also very unorthodox and against the guidelines for such injections. This is due to cortisone's many side effects and possible long-term effects.

Female (42 years):

Now I got a little anxious. Seems this is difficult, but I'll contact the medical office tomorrow. Hope for speed this time.

A private diagnostic ultrasound examination costs approximately NOK 500-600 with a chiropractor or manual therapist - and means that you can often get an appointment within 48 hours. Then you can find out what gives your hip symptoms / pain. Public MRI examination can be referred to you from one of the three primary contacts: doctor, chiropractor or manual therapist. They all have the right to refer. We recommend a clinical examination in one of the last two occupational groups we mentioned there.

Female (42 years):
Okay, not sure if the chiropractor I use has ultrasound. But then I can find out. Will check a little tomorrow, luckily have a day off tomorrow. Is super grateful for good help and support! Has been really boring to be in so much pain, especially at night, hope things get better eventually.
