What is anti-inflammatory laser treatment?

Anti-inflammatory laser treatment is a treatment technique used in the treatment of, among other things sore muscles and painful areas of the body. The treatment uses concentrated light photons (laser), which can cause different responses based on different settings (frequencies). Among other things anti-inflammatory effect, painkillers power and regeneration / increased healing are some of the settings that can be used. Due to its ability to increase healing / promote repair, it has become a useful tool for sports teams and the like.

Laser treatment has a proven effect against painful osteoarthritis (Gur et al, 2003) and osteoarthritis pain. It can also be helpful for acute muscle pain or overexertion.

How does anti-inflammatory laser treatment work?

Normally, laser treatment can be applied directly to the therapist against treated areas, and the settings will vary based on the desired result. Based on the pain and the condition you want to treat, it can take quite a few treatments (not abnormal that it can take up to 8-10 treatments) before you achieve full recovery. Laser treatment is often used as a supplement to joint mobilization, muscle techniques and the like - by among others physiotherapists, chiropractors og manual therapists.

- What is a trigger point?

A trigger point, or muscle node, occurs when muscle fibers have departed from their normal orientation and regularly contract into a more knot-like formation. You may think of it as if you have several strands lying in a row next to each other, nicely assorted, but when placed crosswise you are closer to a visual image of a muscle knot. This may be due to a sudden overload, but most normally it is due to gradual failure over an extended period of time. A muscle becomes painful, or symptomatic, when the dysfunction becomes so severe that it becomes pain. In other words, it's time to do something about it.
