Olecranon bursitis (elbow mucus inflammation)

Olecranon bursitis can occur after a single trauma (fall or accident) or repeated microtrauma. Mucosal inflammation in the elbow can also arise from something as simple as supporting you on the elbow through much of the day on hard surfaces.

The position of the ground mucus, in the upper layer above the olecranon, is prone to trauma or friction damage.

Olecranon bursitis symptoms

The area can become hot, painful and reddish in the skin - a clear swelling will usually also be present. In certain cases (for example in the absence of treatment) the inflammation can become septic, and is then called septic olecranon bursitis.
