Extensor carpi radialis longus myalgi (trigger point).

The extensor carpi radialis longus is the muscle with a trigger point pain pattern toward the top of the wrist and elbow. Extensor carpi radialis longus is one of the wrist pullers - one of the muscles that can be involved in tennis elbow / lateral epicondylite. This can occur if it becomes overactive, tight and dysfunctional. A so-called extensor carpi radialis longus myalgi, also known as an extensor carpi radialis longus trigger point or muscle knot. Regularly self massage, stretching, exercises and any treatment of a musculoskeletal expert (chiropractor, physical therapist, manual therapist) are all examples of measures that can help you get rid of myalgia.

Foam rolls are in the wind like never before - hence their incredible price growth in the sports shops. Now a foam roller can cost up 500,- kroner in certain stores, which is pretty ridiculous considering what you are actually paying for. A foam roller. We have received good feedback on the following foam roll which costs a fraction of the price (at the time of writing it only costs approx. 90 Norwegian kroner as of 28.04.2015 - a real bargain in other words):

- Read more about the foam roller here: BLUE High Density Foam Roller (link opens in new window)

Did you know?
- Often stiff and dysfunctional joints (also read: joint pain - joint locks?) be a partial cause of myalgia, as the limited joint joint can also have a negative effect on muscular function. Joint treatment with a chiropractor or manual therapist may be helpful in such cases.

Old pillows? Buying new?

New pillows of a special material may also be helpful in case of recurrent myalgia - if you are considering investing in one then recommend several studies this pillow.

This type of pillows is almost impossible to raise in Norway, and if you find one, they usually cost the shirt and some more. Instead, try the pillow via the article we link to above, it has a lot good shooting goals and people are happy.

Here is an illustration showing the muscle attachments of the extensor carpi radialis longus muscle:

Extensor carpi radialis longus attaches mainly to the humerus, as well as some fibers to the posterior part of the lateral epicondylene - and from there goes out towards the radius and attaches to this leg, before it goes further down towards other MCP joints. Extensor carpi radialis longus' nerve supply comes from the radial nerve C5-T1.

Here you can see an illustration that shows the trigger point pain pattern (referenced pain from muscle knot) for extensor carpi radialis longus:

Extensor carpi radialis longus can also cause pain against the elbow.

Exercise and movement are good for body and soul:

    • Chin-up / pull-up exercise bar can be an excellent exercise tool to have at home. It can be attached and detached from the door frame without the use of a drill or tool.
    • Cross-trainer / ellipse machine: Excellent fitness training. Good for promoting movement in the body and exercising overall.
    • Kettlebells is a very effective form of training that produces fast and good results.
    • Spinning ergometer bike: Good to have at home, so you can increase the amount of exercise throughout the year and get better fitness.

      Hi Reidun,

It does not sound good at all. Has an MRI or other imaging diagnosis been taken recently - if so, at what levels do you have spinal stenosis? Do you have good exercises that you think work well for you? Do you train daily?

      Regards.
