- How to Eat for Healthier Lungs!

A study published in the research journal The American Thoracic Society has shown that eating right can also improve lung function and healthier lungs. The researchers found that having a high fiber diet was directly linked to a reduced risk of developing lung disease.

Lung diseases are a major problem in Norway and globally. In fact, COPD is the third leading medical cause of death worldwide - so if you can reduce the chance of lung disease by eating more fiber, including fruits and vegetables, then you should do your best to motivate yourself and pursue it.

Fiber intake linked to better lung health

1921 men and women participated in the study - mainly in the age group 40-70. The study took into account variable factors such as socioeconomic status, smoking, weight and state of health before starting the study. After collecting data, they divided the participants according to fiber intake into upper and lower groups. The upper group consumed an average of 17.5 grams of fiber a day compared to the lower group who ate only 10.75 grams. Even after the results were adjusted according to the variable factors, it could be stated that the group with a higher fiber content also had better lung health. Do you have input? The results were clear and clear

Among the upper group with fiber intake of 17.5 grams per day, it was noted that 68.3% had normal lung function. In the lower group with lower fiber intake, it was seen that 50.1% had normal lung function - a clear difference there. The incidence of lung restrictions was also clearly higher in the group with a low fiber content - 29.8% versus 14.8% in the other group. In other words: Try to eat a varied diet consisting mainly of vegetables, fruits and other elements with a high fiber content.

How can fiber produce healthier lungs?

The study could not say with 100% certainty the very reason why fiber provided better lung health, but they believe that it is linked to fiber's anti-inflammatory properties. They also believe that due to the fact that fiber contributes to an improved intestinal flora - this will also ensure an overall improved immune response to disease. Inflammation is at the root of most lung diseases, and a general decrease in this inflammatory response could have a direct positive impact on lung health. High fiber content in the diet is also linked to reduced CRP (C-reactive protein) content - which is a driver for increased inflammation.

Conclusion

In short, 'Eat more fruit and vegetables!' the conclusion of this article. The researchers also believe that we must ignore medication and medication as the only main treatment aimed at lung diseases and rather focus on improved dietary knowledge and prevention. A healthy diet should of course also be combined with exercise and increased exercise in everyday life. If you want to read the whole study, you will find a link at the bottom of the article.
