Fibromyalgia Flare-ups and Triggers: When Symptoms Get Acutally Worse

Have you heard of fibromyalgia flare-ups? Or wondering why your fibromyalgia symptoms sometimes get acutely aggravated - all the way out of the blue? Here we will teach you more about fibromyalgia flares, what kind of symptoms you can get, what triggers you need to watch out for - and, not least, what you can do to relieve it.

Fibromyalgia can go in waves and valleys - some days can be significantly worse than others. In some cases, you can go to bed and think that things are not so bad - and then wake up with their worst pain the next morning. It is this phenomenon of flared symptoms that is known as fibromyalgia flares (flare as in English for flares).

We fight for those with other chronic pain diagnoses and diseases to have better opportunities for treatment and examination - something not everyone agrees with, unfortunately. 1. The Definition of Fibromyalgia Flares

symptoms you must not ignore

For the vast majority of us with fibromyalgia, the symptoms often vary from day to day. There will be periods when the pain is at its worst - and times when it is significantly milder. Thus, it is the periods when the symptoms have flared up to their extreme that is defined as Flares.

Thus, Flares describes severe worsening of your fibromyalgia pain and symptoms. Such flare-ups tend to persist for days or even for weeks.

Did you know that daily exercise exercises adapted to those with fibromyalgia can provide symptom relief for flares? You can see such a training program below.

2. Symptoms of Fibromyalgia Flares

The symptoms of fibromyalgia flares often differ from 'normal' fibromyalgia symptoms. They are often stronger than what you usually experience and can last longer.

The symptoms you may experience are as with regular episodes:

  • Tension and overvoltage
  • Fibromyalgia Headaches
  • brain Fog
  • Pain in muscles, nerves and joints
  • Fatigue and fatigue
  • Effect in the body (as with the flu)

Too many people are plagued with chronic pain and illnesses that destroy everyday life - that's why we encourage you to Share this article in social mediaFeel free to like our Facebook page and say, "Yes to more research on chronic pain diagnoses".

In this way, one can make the symptoms associated with this diagnosis more visible and ensure that more people are taken seriously - and thus get the help they need. We also hope that such increased attention can lead to greater funding for research on new assessment and treatment methods.

3. Causes and Triggers for Fibromyalgia Flares

eye pain

It is not known exactly why flares occur - but one has managed to identify a number of triggers and factors. These triggers may vary from person to person.

Possible triggers can be:

  • Bad sleep
  • Emotional and physical stress
  • menstrual Cycle
  • Overstressing
  • Injuries or trauma
  • Major changes - such as relocation
  • Disease
  • Weather changes

This is not a complete list - due to the fact that you can also have individual triggers. That is, factors that only affect exactly you.

Did you know that physical training can help you with both mental and physical challenges? Group training in a hot-water pool with like-minded people can be incredibly rewarding. You can read more about it in the link below.

4. Treatment and Measures for Fibromyalgia Flares

natural painkillers

There are several different treatment options that can help with fibromyalgia flare-ups - but it is important to remember that they depend on what is the trigger. Many episodes of fibromyalgia flares can make you so exhausted that you can hardly cope other than holding the couch.

Measures that one has seen that can help to help are:

  • Physical therapy & massage
  • Physiotherapy
  • Rest
  • Cognitive therapy
  • Mindfulness & breathing techniques
  • Modern chiropractic
  • Thermal Baths
  • Yoga

Unfortunately, it can take some time for such treatments to work - and that is precisely why many people choose to also use such measures outside the pain periods.

Did you know that the right diet can have a very positive effect on fibromyalgia? The 'fibromyalgia diet' follows national dietary advice and guidelines. You can read more about it in the article below.

5. To Prepare for a Flare-up

headaches and headaches

We with fibromyalgia know that it is not a question of if we get hurt, but rather a matter of whenTherefore, it is incredibly important to prepare for such exacerbations to occur suddenly - by this we mean that medicines should be clear and that pain relief measures have been prepared (for example, hot-cold gasket).

The exhaustion that accompanies an acute deterioration also means that we are not allowed to do the housework we want to do - this makes us feel even worse. It is therefore important, especially if you are single, that you try to have a contact person who can get hold of if things get really bad. Feel free to contact your municipality if you need assistance with this.

6. Prevention of Fibromyalgia Flares

green tea

The key to preventing flares lies in knowing their triggers and keeping the emotional as well as physical stress at bay. Some people find peace with a quiet session in a hot water pool - and others enjoy themselves best with a hot cup of tea in the sofa corner. We are different.

We recommend the following measures to prevent acute episodes of aggravation:

  • Remove negative energy from your life
  • Do what you enjoy
  • Chart your triggers
  • Talk to your friends and family about your condition
  • Be open about your needs

Don't block your feelings inside and don't be afraid to talk about what your illness is doing to you - it is not to "complain" when you inform about your pain to family and acquaintances so that they can take into account and show judgment on why you may have a little energy that day or are not completely yourself.

You are worth as much as anyone else - never let anyone else get down on you and make you believe something else.
