STUDY: Olive oil has the same function as Ibuprofen

A study published in the research journal Nature showed that certain olive oil agents have the same function as ibuprofen! This is incredibly exciting research for most people, as olive oil has nowhere near the side effects that ibuprofen has. The joint catalog, a reference work for medicines, states, among other things, that 10% of those who take ibuprofen get acid reflux or diarrhea. It can also be mentioned that 1% will get a headache - which is quite ironic, as this is a common painkiller used for this particular problem.

- The study showed the same behavior between olive oil and ibuprofen

The study reviewed and compared the pharmaceutical effect between the active ingredient in extra virgin olive oil, oleocanthal, and ibuprofen - the researchers found that both exhibited anti-inflammatory (anti-inflammatory) and analgesic properties. They also noted that the potency and effect were surprisingly strong in the natural remedy oleocanthal. The same tool has previously shown that it can kill certain types of cancer cells.

- They stop same pain signals

It was also shown that both oleocanthal and ibuprofen blocked the same pain signal, namely Cox-1 and Cox-2. The two, quite simply, are enzymes that can contribute to pain and inflammation.

- Are there other natural ways to alleviate pain?

Yes, among the most common, natural dietary measures that can counteract pain are often mentioned:

  • Fish Oil / Omega-3 / Tran
  • Vitamin D (yes, sunshine can be pain-relieving!)
  • Blueberries (has proven natural pain-reducing effect)
  • Anti-inflammatory food - you can read more about this in our article on synovitis / arthritis (especially vegetables and fruits)
  • Otherwise, exercise and activity at your own pace are naturally recommended - exercise is the best medicine!

- Shouldn't more natural painkillers be used in the medical world?

Our thoughts are on whether one should focus further on such research and try to produce a painkiller based on precisely oleocanthal - but unfortunately this has not been done yet, and we assume that it may be for financial reasons. We hope it comes in the near future - in the meantime, you can stick to extra virgin olive oil for both the food and the salad.
