STUDY: Coffee Can Reduce Liver Damage Caused by Alcohol

Do you love coffee? If your answer is a resounding YES, then we have good news for you. Most of us know about the negative consequences that alcohol can have, but still, many people drink too much and too often. This is one of the reasons why people develop cirrhosis, also known as cirrhosis. But here is at least some good news if you like to have a cup of coffee from time to time - a recent overview study published in England showed that two cups of coffee a day can reduce and potentially reverse liver damage. A happy news for you who love both a dram and a coffee year.

- The study showed a connection between liver health and coffee consumption

The study went through 10 major studies with over 430000 participants. They concluded that consuming two cups of coffee a day reduces the chance of cirrhosis by 44%. This is of course great news for those of you who love coffee. Cirrhosis of the liver leads to liver failure and death - millions die each year due to liver damage caused by too much alcohol, poor nutrition, autoimmune diseases or hepatitis infections. There is no cure for cirrhosis of the liver, so the best thing to do is to prevent it from happening.

Cirrhosis of the liver and coffee intake

The study, published at the University of Southampton in England, showed the following when it comes to the connection between coffee intake and cirrhosis:

  • A cup of coffee daily reduces the chance of cirrhosis by 22%
  • Two cups gives 44% lower risk
  • Three cups gave a 57% reduced chance of cirrhosis
  • And finally, four cups gave a 65% chance of cirrhosis

- The study was compared with those who did not drink coffee

This was a comprehensive study of the highest quality, a so-called meta-analysis. The results compared those who drank coffee with those who did not drink coffee, so the results are what you call significant.

- Coffee is coffee, right?

We recall that there are several types of coffee, and we emphasize that there are three main factors that influence how the coffee's effect is:

  • The coffee beans
  • jetty Technique
  • Coffee drinker's lifestyle and activity level

A study also showed that filtered coffee was somewhat more effective in reducing the chance of cirrhosis of liver than finished coffee. Either way, this is good news for those of you who enjoy both a night out and a coffee cup. But naturally, we are reminded that a healthy diet and regular exercise also play a very important role.
