Gout and Hyperuricemia | Symptoms, cause and natural treatment

Gout and hyperuricaemia: Here you can read about symptoms, clinical signs, cause and natural treatment - as well as old women's advice. Useful information and good advice for you who have gout.

High concentration of uric acid in the blood is called hyperuricemia in the medical language. Uric acid is formed by the breakdown of food and nutrients - the uric acid is filtered out of the kidneys and out of the body through the urine when the water is passed. But with overproduction of uric acid, solid crystal lumps can form inside various joints - and it is this diagnosis that is called gout. The condition affects many and can cause pain and symptoms in joints - such as joint swelling, redness and significant pressure soreness on the affected joint. TIP: Many people with gout in the big toe like to use toe pullers og specially adapted compression socks (the link opens in a new window) to increase circulation and limit the load on the affected area.

Cause: Why do you get gout?

There are several possible reasons why one is affected by too high concentrations of uric acid in the blood, as well as gout. One of the most common reasons is that the kidneys do not filter away enough of the uric acid itself - and thus an excess of this builds up which can cause uric acid clots in the joints. Another cause is obesity, eating foods with high levels of uric acid, too much alcohol, diabetes or diuretics (medicines that make you urinate more often than usual).

Besides the aforementioned reasons, genetic factors, metabolic problems, medications, psoriasis or cancer treatment can also cause uric acid gout.

Symptoms and clinical signs: How do you know if you have gout?

Too high levels of uric acid in the blood will cause gout in the joints - and then most normally in the big toe joint. Associated symptoms and clinical signs include swelling in the joints, redness and pressure soreness - as well as intense joint pain that is at its worst in the first 12 - 24 hours after the gout has occurred. Symptoms may persist for days or up to several weeks. Over time - if the problem is not addressed - then uric acid crystals can also form in other joints.

  • Toe pullers (used to separate the toes and thus prevent bent toes - such as hallux valgus, bent big toe)
  • Mini tapes (many with rheumatic and chronic pain feel that it is easier to train with custom elastics)
  • Trigger point Balls (self-help to work the muscles on a daily basis)
  • Arnica cream or heat conditioner (many people report some pain relief if they use, for example, arnica cream or heat conditioner)

- Many people use arnica cream for pain due to stiff joints and sore muscles. Click on the image above to read more about how arnica cream can help relieve some of your pain situation.

Remedies: Natural treatment of gout: Apple cider vinegar and lemon juice

There are common medications to fight gout - but one can also use natural remedies to cure the disease. Two of these "home remedies" are apple cider vinegar and lemon juice.

Apple cider vinegar and lemon juice are well-known, natural home remedies that are used for a number of problems - such as elevated levels of uric acid in the body. Apple cider vinegar can act as a natural cleanser by helping the body remove high levels of waste products. It also contains malic acid which chemically helps to break down uric acid. It can also help the body maintain a healthy acid level in the body - while also contributing its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties.

Recipe: According to publications (Goutandyou.com), a teaspoon of raw and untreated apple cider vinegar is added to a glass of water. Then take this drink two to three times a day. In some cases, you can also add two teaspoons instead of one. This drink can help reduce uric acid levels in the body - but should not be exaggerated, as it can reduce potassium levels in the body.

Lemon juice can also help neutralize uric acid. As a citrus fruit, lemon has a naturally high level of vitamin C - which, thanks to its strong antioxidant properties, helps to break down the high concentrations of uric acid. Lemon juice is ingested by squeezing the juice of a fresh lemon into a glass of warm water before drinking it on an empty stomach in the morning. This drink can be drunk every day.

Diet: Avoid foods that have high levels of purine in them

It is often said that prevention is the best cure. Therefore, avoid foods that contain high levels of purine - as these cause an increase in uric acid in the body. Purine is found in most ingredients - but some of the most purine-rich dishes are meat, sardines, herring, anchovies, bacon, peas and asparagus - to name a few.

High uric acid may lead to the formation of crystals or gout, which is very painful to the joints. Along with home remedies that can be done, uric acid can be managed through medical consultation for proper assessment, planning, implementation, education, and evaluation.

Summary

As mentioned earlier, elevated levels of uric acid in the blood can lead to uric acid crystals in the joints - which is very painful. In addition to the mentioned natural treatment methods, gout can also be treated medically through a careful assessment and treatment plan - which, among other things, places a high focus on diet.
