Gluten Sensitivity: Scientists Found Biological Cause

En study published in the research journal Gut has shown the possible biological reason why some are gluten sensitive and others not - and shows that one CAN have gluten sensitivity without being diagnosed with celiac disease, so-called non-celiac gluten sensitivity.

Those with gluten sensitivity, without it autoimmune The diagnosis of celiac disease, often experiences many of the same symptoms as those with intestinal disease - but without the same findings and damage to the intestines. This can lead to them not being believed. This study showed that non-celiac gluten sensitivity is also a true diagnosis, and that it can occur to varying degrees based on how reduced the intestinal defenses are. This reduced ability to defend in the gut can lead to an inflammatory response (mild inflammatory reaction) when these people eat gluten-containing foods. Which can lead to known symptoms such as bloating, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain and vomiting.

Study showed that non-celiac gluten sensitivity is not 'invented'

Many people claim that gluten sensitivity is not a real diagnosis, as there are not as direct findings as in, for example, celiac disease - this has made many people sneeze at gluten sensitivity and say that it is only 'psychological causes'. In the study, however, they showed that it is possible to have gluten sensitivity without having celiac disease. The study had 160 participants, of which 40 had celiac disease, 40 were healthy and 80 had demonstrated gluten sensitivity through testing. The researchers then took blood samples from the three groups which they then used to see what happened to their immune system when they ate gluten.

Specific findings in the blood tests

In the group with gluten sensitivity, specific markers were found in the blood samples that indicated an acute immune response in the intestines, as well as a biomarker that indicated damage inside the intestine - after they had consumed gluten. Which shows that this group has reduced intestinal defenses due to intestinal cell damage. The researchers believe that this response proves that those with non-celiac gluten sensitivity also get inflammatory responses when they eat gluten. Which can mean a lot for future treatment and assessment.

Returned to normal after 6 months without gluten

In the group with non-celiac gluten sensitivity, it was seen that the inflammatory process and the intestinal cells healed themselves after 6 months without gluten in the diet. Which in turn supported the theory of the researchers. This could lead to new methods for diagnosing and diagnosing gluten sensitivity - something that does not exist these days.

Conclusion

Given how many people are affected by non-celiac gluten sensitivity and its negative impact on everyday life, we think this is research and research that deserves more support and attention. We hope this leads to a new method for diagnosing gluten sensitivity.
